Literature Text

One moment, me and my crew are looking into the black eyes of god; the vengeful god that tortures humans and animals with famine, death, and disaster.

The next, blackness consumes us, the power on our ship down momentarily. The artificial gravity malfunctions and the oxygen ceases to flow through the vents throughout. I take a deep breath before, and grasp the captain's wheel--my wheel-- staring forward into the darkness. This darkness wasn't like anything I'd seen before, stars didn't glitter about like the beauty around my home planet, Earth. Only the occaisional flash of electricity escaped into the dark. I heard men around me die out of shock and lack of air, their limp and heavy bodies floating in the back of the command center. The only conclusion I could make about this unknown mality; we were now in the almighty's brain.

My vision blurred violently, My lungs were shrinking and I couldn't do anything. The turbulence on the ship was more vicious now. Between flashes of lightning I saw nothing. My men continued to drop like flies, and I was almost amoung them.

I couldn't bare it any longer. My mouth burst open, grasped for oxygen in vain. My grip on the wheel ceased and I floated to the ceiling, my head feeling as incredibly light as my body was without gravity. The first thing to come to my mind before I knew I would die was Sarah, and how I would never see her again. Her flowing blonde hair and shining blue eyes were only a memory now, a mere dream.

Just when my eyes shut, I could breathe again. I, and everyone else on the ship, fell to the floor with a thump as the power returned. Oxygen went in, carbon dioxide came out, unifrom back once again. My ears continued to ring as I took in long breaths, trying to regain my composure. I was sure that I was the only one left alive until I heard my first officer and several overs come to my side, their first concern was me when they could've been dead themselves.

I waved my hands, trying to dismiss them all. "I'm fine." I said in a gruff voice. I stood, leaning against the wheel's console. I looked out the one-hundred-eighty degree view made of the finest laser-proof glass on the market to see what I never thought I would.

My first officer gasped. "It's.."

It was the one thing I and everyone else aboard thee ship wanted to see more than anything after a long and perilous journey through the stars. It was the one place that all of us prayed to see more than anything every night before we slept, and the one place that could bring comfort in a time of turbulence. I will see you again, Sarah.

"It's home."
First sci-fi I've ever written, actually. Hope it's not too bad

Edit: I've decided to make my contest entry this alone. The second chapter will remain up, but I will not be continuing this story.
